Giedinghagen

The Giedinghagen family emigrated from Germany in 1854 on the ship Neptune, arriving in New Orleans on June 5.  They then took a steamship up the Mississippi River to Saint Louis, Missouri, and settled in that area.

The family story is presented in these pages which were provided by Ms. Diane Mohr of Kansas City, Missouri, my fourth cousin.  At present we are displaying images of the typed pages as we work on entering it into our genealogy database.  Later we hope to present it in the same searchable formats as for the other families on this site.

NOTE:  If you are using Internet Explorer 6.0 or later, it may be set to fit the entire page image on your screen, making the text too small to read.  If this is the case, move your mouse pointer over the page and let it rest there for a few moments.  An enlargement control will pop up at the bottom right corner of the image.  Click the control to see a readable-sized image.

Pin Oak Creek
Baptist Church

After reading this material, my brother Dan (we are grandchildren of Lillie Giedinghagen Linder)  made this observation.

"I was interested in reading about the Giedinghagen-Pin Oak Creek connection. When I was in seminary I did a paper on August Rauschenbusch (the founder of POC Baptist church, and father of Walter Rauschenbusch, a teacher at the "German Department" of Rochester Theological Seminary and a hero of Grandpa Linder's). Among papers somewhere I found a copy of the anniversary booklet published by Pin Oak Creek Baptist Church, which included a poem Grandpa Linder had written for the occasion. I always thought that it was just one German Baptist preacher doing something nice for a fellow pastor; didn't realize that there was a family connection. I'll look for the paper and the brochure for you."
