What to Wear?
Several classmates have
asked about appropriate attire for reunion events. The most important
answer is that no one will be turned away from any event if they are dressed
legally and respectably. Let your conscience be your guide. Be happy
that you do not have to figure out what to tell people that they should wear!
If you can do a better job, send me your suggestions.
Banquet: We
suggest "dressy casual". For the men, sport shirt and slacks is
fine. If you want to wear a sport jacket or tie, that's OK too. Even
a suit if it pleases you ... but definitely not required. For the
ladies, read the section on "for the men" and figure out something that
would be suitable with that ... neither dresses nor high heels are required.
Check with two or three other women and find out what they are wearing (you are
probably going to do that anyway).
Paseo Tour:
Casual respectable.
Hospitality Suite:
Casual respectable.
Reunion T-Shirts
The committee has created Class of 57 T-shirts for the reunion. The shirts will be great to wear at reunion events such as the
tour of the Paseo Academy or visits to Winsteads and other KC attractions.
There are both short- and long-sleeve versions in sizes S through XXXL.
We will get enough shirts to satisfy all of the orders that we have received
by September 10. If you have not yet ordered yours, print out and mail the
T-Shirt order blank TODAY!
(see
the shirts)
Hyatt
Hotel
The Hyatt provides a
first-rate venue for the event, with plenty of areas to visit and dining
opportunities, as well as access to the Crown Center shopping area with
additional eating places. There are a number of attractions at Union Station,
and the National World War I museum at Liberty Memorial is a "must see" if you
have the time.
Room Reservations
We have blocked a small number of hotel rooms for our 50th Reunion
weekend. They are available for reservation on a first-come, first-served basis.
The room rate is $119 per night, not including taxes which should add
approximately $15 to the cost. This rate is $20 to $30 less than the
minimum advertised rates for that weekend, so they represent a real cost
saving for those taking advantage of them. There is no guarantee how long these
rooms will be available, so it would be a good idea to make your reservation
as quickly as possible. Although you have the option to cancel your
reservation up to three days before the event, we ask that you make the
reservations only if you plan to use them. It would be unfortunate if someone
attending the reunion were unable to get a room because of an unused reservation
In order to qualify for the $119 per night rate you have to identify
yourself as a member of Paseo High School Class of 1957. You can make the
reservation at Hyatts reservation service by calling 800-233-1234. Be
sure that the reservations are made for the Hyatt Regency Crown Center in Kansas
City, MO. You can obtain the rooms at this rate for Friday or Saturday nights,
October 12 and 13, 2007, or both.
If you would rather make
your reservations via the internet, use the address
http://crowncenter.hyatt.com/groupbooking/mkcrkpase2007
Costs
The $50 registration
fee covers only the cost of the dinner.
All other costs,
including the cost of renting the hospitality suite, providing snacks and drinks
in the hospitality suite, providing a DJ for the banquet, mailings,
transportation for the tour, and other costs are being funded from voluntary
contributions by classmates.
If you would like to
make a contribution you should send your check payable to Paseo High
School Class of 1957 to John Reece,424 NE Thornberry Place, Lee's
Summit, MO 64064.
Reunion Activities
On the advice of classes before ours
we are electing to minimize the amount of program and organized activity in
favor of providing a nice environment for visiting with old friends.
We will provide a hospitality suite
for Friday afternoon and evening and Saturday morning. At our 1997 reunion
a number of small groups went off on their own for dinner, some making it a date
at Winsteads on the Plaza (there are more Winsteads around town these days).
We plan a tour on Saturday afternoon
for those who would like to see the "new" Paseo Academy of the Graphic and
Performing Arts. Lew Hinshaw and Roy Busdiecker took a similar tour and
believe that you would be impressed by what is now provided there (despite the
feelings that we all share about what was done to our Alma Mater).
REUNION SCHEDULE
Photo Coverage
Bill Schmitt,
husband of classmate Linda Davis Whitaker Schmitt, graciously has volunteered to
take group photos at each table during the reunion banquet. Those
photos will be posted on this website.
We have contracted with
Raines Video Productions, Portland Oregon, to produce a DVD Video
at the reunion. There is no charge to the group for this service, but the
vendor will sell copies of the video to any classmates for $29.95,
regardless whether or not that classmate attended the reunion. We are
providing a class mailing list to Raines for that purpose with their explicit
written agreement not to sell or exchange the list with others.
Free Time Suggestions
Information is provided on other
things and places of interest around the area on the
Paseo Alliance website. The Alliance started out as a "1950's
Decade" group but has expanded to include all classes from the original
building.
Reunion Committee
Everyone on the committee
participated in a number of ways in preparing for the reunion and making it a
success. Some took responsibility for a specific function while others
simply did whatever they could to help at a variety of tasks. All were
important to making the reunion happen. Everyone played some role in
finding the largest collection of classmates since our tenth reunion. All
members of the committee were involved in the search for missing classmates.
