Hello Classmates - [Changes since report was published are in bold italic font]

The reunion will be at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center, 2345 McGee, Kansas City, MO, October 12-14, 2007.
After looking at a number of possibilities we are close to finalizing a decision on the Westin Crown Center, where we had our 40th reunion in 1997. In addition to being linked in to the Crown Center Complex, the Westin affords excellent views of Liberty Memorial, Union Station, and downtown Kansas City. It has undergone a number of improvements since we were last there, including guest room furnishings and the air conditioning plant. Benton's Restaurant on one of the top levels will be an excellent site for a Sunday brunch.

The committee has considered a number of possible dates and settled on that period at the end of September or early October 12-14 of 2007 when we should have a decent chance for good weather, not too hot and not too cold. This is a popular time for large group get-togethers, so we need to move swiftly to lock in the hotel while it is still available. One of the competing events is the NASCAR weekend at Kansas Speedway, which will fill many of the hotels in the area, but whose date for 2007 has not yet been announced. We have told the Westin that we would like either the last weekend in September or the first weekend in October, whichever is not the NASCAR date. We realize that this date is not convenient for everyone and apologize if you are one of the ones affected. It is unfortunate that there is no date that would meet everyone's preference.

I'd like to share with you our present understanding of costs for the weekend and ask for your help in keeping them as low as we can.

You can help by letting us know how you will plan to participate. If we have a good idea on the number who will participate in the reunion, and the number who will be spending one or both nights at the hotel, it will put us in the best position for negotiating with the hotel. At the end of this note you will find a place where you can indicate your plans and return this email to tell us your plans.

While a detailed program has not yet been developed, the committee has agreed that the format of previous reunions has served well in its primary purpose of giving us a chance to get reacquainted, visit, and recall fond memories together. An outline of our schedule will look something like this, but very much subject to change.

    Room rate (king or two double beds), including taxes $145 per night
    Banquet including service charge (tip) and tax $ 75 per person
    Sunday brunch at Benson's $ 27 per person
    Registration TBD
        to cover costs of mailing, hospitality suite, and other committee expenses.
        Note: the more who participate, the smaller this amount will be.

Finally, and very important, here is your chance to respond. Your answers are not a financial commitment, but do represent a serious statement that you intend to follow through except in the case of accident, illness or family emergency. We will be basing our class commitments on your answers.
