* Find Anything - If it can be found on the net, GOOGLE.COM can find it better than anyone else. I use it to find "impossible" hints in crossword puzzles! Yahoo now uses the Google search engine and offers free email. When you go to the Google site, be sure to check out its homepage hyperlinks to other services such as Images, Groups, News, and so on. If you are looking for a particular service located close to you (restaurants, cleaners, repairs), use Google's Local link, which will deliver results ordered by distance from your location. Google's Desktop service will search your local files and emails ... something that Outlook has left out. |
|
|
| * Different and fascinating - Kartoo is a graphical-map oriented search engine that shows how multiple sites relate to each other with respect to your search. Too difficult to explain with words, but only takes a minute to take a look. I have never seen anything like it! | ||
Time
Zone Map - instant access to current time in any part of the world with
graphical representation of locations included in each time zone. Site
assumes that you are in the location set as local time on your PC. The
site also offers interactive selection of a variety of maps showing different
features.
* Amazon -the biggest and best! Free
shipping now with purchase of $50 or more. Check out prices on like-new
"used" books. You can now order for pickup from Borders, but the
savings are less, if any.
*
Buy.com - reliable
vendor, claims price 10% below Amazon (did not have the one book that I was looking
for, but it was available from Amazon). Good prices for my Epson
printer inks.
Barnes and Noble - "bricks &
clicks" ... internet availability plus a store that you can take returns
back to. Partnered with Borders bookstore. As of 7/14/02 offered
free shipping with two or more items.
Books on Tape - $13 monthly subscription
brings one book per month, $16 gets two. Also provides a list of
best-sellers as well as access to radio and audible versions of newspaper or
magazine.
Lulu.com -
self-publishing done right! No up-front costs, this publishing prints
copies of your book on paper or DVD as they are ordered by customers. They
handle the ordering and delivery and charge only 20% of the selling price.
I have not used this service yet, but am considering it for several projects
including genealogy projects for those who prefer hard-copy versions of the
information now available on the internet.
Dilbert -the lovable
engineer
and his office crowd!
Peanuts - Charlie Brown and the
gang!
